However, the trend toward digital is increasing as the diagnostic benefits are becoming recognized. Images can be enhanced for optimal viewing and pathology, stored electronically, and made available in seconds. Software enables the physician to perform biomechanical annotations effortlessly on the monitor. Digital images can then be shared with a colleague across the hall or across the world utilizing PACS software. Enhanced images can often reveal diagnoses not discernible on standard film X-rays of these tiny bones.
